The most significant aspect of this poem is it's confessionalism; Kaur herself takes blame for being superficial and wrong in her interactions with others. In doing so, she is calling other women, and people, to realize that they may be doing this as well, and change their ways, because they should be reduced to "what you're born with." Although this poem is confessional, most of her other poems are not, and are from the perspective of women collectively; Kaur's personal apology therefore has more significance.
